It’s been 15 years since the original Monsters Inc. hit UK cinemas, which - apart from making everyone feel old - provides the perfect opportunity for us to begin appreciating the monster brethren who live amongst us.
Hoxton Street Monster Supplies specialises in a range of ghastly ornaments and twisted edibles, such as petrified mice, werewolf biscuits and children’s tinned fear, and is London’s only supply shop which sells exclusively to monsters.
Emily Murdock is the trading manager of the store and full-time liaison between human and monster customers. “We opened in 1818, but some would deny that, as we only became visible to humans in 2010,” Emily said gleefully.
The shop is part of a creative writing and mentoring charity, the Ministry of Stories, which runs classes for local school children and teaches them the importance of imagination, an idea which is fully embraced by the store itself.
“All of our profits go straight back into the classes, ensuring that they always remain free and accessible for the children,” Emily said.
All of the items in the store are bespoke and often crafted in collaboration with famous children’s authors including Jeremy Strong and Andy Stanton; just make sure you only visit during the human opening hours.
